—Sri Swami Sivananda—
A cobra bit the son of a farmer.
The farmer’s son died.
The farmer became very angry.
He cut the tail of the cobra with an axe.
Later he thought the cobra
Would bite him in revenge.
He wanted to make peace with the cobra.
He took some milk
And placed it near the hole of the cobra.
The cobra came and said,
“O farmer! We cannot become friends anymore.
I will remember my cut tail
Whenever I will see you or think of you.
Whenever you will see me,
You will remember your dead son.”
The memory of a wrong done by somebody
Is deep-rooted in the mind.
Man wants to take his revenge on the wrongdoer.
The scar is deep and marked.
Develop, therefore, intense love;
Forget and forgive.
