Have Satsanga. Give up bad company, smoking, meat and alcoholic liquors entirely. Do not develop any evil habits.

Sri Swami Sivananda

Commentary: Satsanga is a Sanskrit word which means the company of the wise saints and sages.

Ego is bad company. Selfishness is bad company. Anger is bad company. Greed is bad company. Shirking work is bad company. Dejection is bad company. Anything contrary to the qualities of compassion, kindness, truthfulness, courageousness and gratefulness is bad company. Don’t keep company with them. They are your enemies.

Be in the company of the wise. They will tell you how to get rid of your enemies. They will tell you how to follow Sri Swami Sivananda’s instruction—‘Keep company with God’. Constant remembrance of God is an unfailing method to keep company with Him.

Do not develop any evil habits. Anything (including smoking, eating meat and  drinking alcohol), that holds you back from remembering God is an evil habit.
