Japa Mala

Japa Mala (Rosary)—Have a Japa Mala round your neck or in your pocket or underneath your pillow at night.

Commentary: A rosary is used for the purpose of doing Japa i.e. repetition of God’s name. A rosary generally contains 108 beads. You should tell the beads according to a technique which should be learnt. Each time you tell a bead, you should repeat God’s name vocally or mentally. You are advised to keep the rosary beneath your pillow so that when you wake up at night you do not lose the opportunity of repeating God’s name.

God’s name is not like any other name. God’s name and God are one. When you repeat God’s name you begin to move towards God. You should repeat God’s name as many times as possible. If you repeat God’s name without using a rosary, the mind may deceive you. You will imagine that you have repeated the Name for a long time. Therefore hold a rosary while repeating God’s name. Fix a minimum number of repetitions. (One thousand is the minimum number.) Try to increase this number but do not comprise on the minimum number.

You can choose any name of God or any Mantra of your choice for its repetition but do not change it every now and then.

Remember, the more you repeat God’s name, the nearer you are to God.
